Hi Donna,

Hello, My old laptop died on me (running windows 7), but luckily I had all my pictures, music and documents backed up on my WD Passport. I retrieved the docs to another folder on my new laptop running Windows 10, but w.

  1. Solved WD Passport only works on mac - need to copy all files (in GBs) to Windows solved WD HDD from iMac won't show up with Windows/Mac as external HDD. Solved WD My Passport Ultra does not mount.
  2. With WD My Cloud Desktop app installed on Windows PC or macOS Mac, users can access, manage and share content stored on the WD My Passport Wireless and WD My Cloud network device from anywhere easily.
  3. WD My passport - Not recognized in Win 10 I am having WD My passport Ultra (1tb) and its not recognized in any USB 3.0 ports, after initial one time! If I try my HDD in any USB 2.0 ports its recognized instantly.
  4. Western Digital has unveiled a sleek new My Passport Edge portable drive. It is ultra thin and works with bot Windows and Mac computers. I don’t know if you want to call a hard drive Sexy but if you did the term would probably fit this new device.

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for posting your query.

Let’s try installing the WD passport driver in compatibility mode and check if this helps. I suggest you to install the drivers supplied by the manufacturer any disc or USB which came along with the WD passport drive.

  1. Right-click on the setup file of the driver and select Properties.

  2. Select Compatibility tab.

  3. Check Run this program in Compatibility mode.

  4. Let the driver install and then check the functionality.

Driver

You can also visit the below link and try updating the driver and check.

When reading and writing to the microSD card, it had speeds of 85 MB/s and 64 MB/s, and in our CF card test, it had read and write speeds of 144 MB/s and 114 MB/s. In our SD card test, the IOGear had read and write speeds of 84 MB/s and 72 MB/s, respectively. Unlike our other picks, the IOGear lacks an indicator light, so you can't see when your card is connected or a transfer is underway at a glance. Best buy sd card reader for mac.

If the issue still persist, I recommend you to contact WD passport team for further assistance.

Hope this helps. Keep posting us with the status we will be glad to help you.

Hello,

thank you for replying to my query.

Firstly I have a couple of questions-

do I uninstall the WD security and WD utilities files before I reinstall them?

do I then try and start the install process again from the Manual I downloaded?

Also, I wasn't able to find a compatibility tab.

regards,

Donna

Hey DonnaW2 :)
Billion gave you some good advice! The two WD software programs shouldn't be a problem and I don't believe you should uninstall them when working with the drivers. Feel free to post back if you have trouble finding the drivers or any other problem with the drive! you can contact our support here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=lckjWh
Cheers!

Hello Billion and Captain_WD,

Thank you for your help.

Billion,

I did get so far with your advice but wasn't quite sure what software to download from the website you gave me.

I did try but it said I didn't have privileges.

My next step which was what you Captain_WD suggested was online support.

I've now done that and everything is working perfectly

Than you to both of you, much appreciated.

Hello,

Well my WD passport is working but I still get the message that my File History Drive has been disconnected for too long.

I went in Settings / back up/options and it is still saying last back up was 25/09/15 which was probably just before I installed windows 10 and today I'm getting the same notification.

I did a 'back up now' but the back up date didn't update.

Thank you for replying to my questions.

You are most welcome! Can you verify that the backup is current and not from the older date? If the update is OK and the date is the only problematic thing I'd say that you should turn to the MS's live support. If the backup is not updating I would try doing it on another external drive and see if the results are different.
Post back when you do the tests.

Hello Captain_WD,

Thank you for your reply. How do I know that date of the back up? The online tech remote support did a back up yesterday after he downloaded the compatible win 10 version and the files backed up mirror those on my PC but there's no date that I can see?

Also in settings on Win 10 and I do 'back up now' nothing seems to happen. The date stills says Sept and immediately the 'reconnect your drive' error message comes up.

Sorry, not great with this stuff,

For

Donna

Hey again :)
This should give you a good amount of info including how to check the contents of the backup: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-restore-faq#1TC=windows-7
I would recommend backing up your data with another tool to an external drive just to be on a safe side that you have a current backup of your data. You can try using WD SmartWare: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=45KZ4B
If you have questions for regarding software or anything else feel free to ask :)

To make your Western Digital hard drive work on both Mac and Windows computers, you need to format the drive with the FAT32 file system. Although both operating systems can format your drive with the FAT32 system, Windows 7 limits the partition size to just 32GB, but you can format up to 1TB drives through the Windows Command Prompt. Macs don't limit these partition sizes, so if you have access to both operating systems, format the drive using a Mac.

Macintosh

1.

Connect your Western Digital hard drive to your Mac computer.

2.

Double-click the drive icon that appears on your desktop.

3.

Click 'Applications' from the left pane, 'Utilities' from the second pane and then double click 'Disk Utility' from the third pane.

4.

Click the drive from the left pane of the Disk Utility. There will likely be two drives listed. Choose the one positioned farthest to the left. It should have 'WD' in the drive label.

5.

Click the 'Options' button, click 'Master Boot Record' from the pop-up window and click 'OK.'

6.

Click the drop-down menu under 'Volume Scheme' and choose '1 Partition.'

9.

Click 'Partition' in the confirmation window. The drive will then format. When formatting is complete, the progress bar disappears.

Windows

1.

Connect your Western Digital hard drive to your Windows computer. If you see an AutoPlay window, close it, but note the drive letter associated with the newly attached drive. You can also find this drive letter by holding the 'Windows' key, pressing 'E' to launch Windows Explorer and looking for the drive in the list of storage devices.

2.

Click the 'Start' button, type 'cmd' and press 'Enter' to run the Command Prompt.

3.

Type 'format /FS:FAT32 X:' and press 'Enter.' Replace 'X' with the drive letter of your Western Digital drive.

4.

Type 'y' to confirm formatting. Formatting may take several minutes, but the Command Prompt window will display a confirmation with formatting is complete.
